Altered book cover- Create

It has been a while since I blogged but I have been busy with all sorts of projects. Over the weekend the weather was bad so I had an opportunity to spray and play. I was inspired by a a similar project I spied on Pinterest by  Georgia Heald  who is such clever artist. She does similar work to Ingrid Bolme who is another extremely talented person. I don't do too much palying around with ink spray and so on but love it when I do. You really do have to have the time to sit and play, plus you need your special box or what ever to use when spraying or you get the ink everywhere ( well I seem to anyway....LOL)

I have added texture with modelling paste through a stencil, cut up paper that looked like distressed wood and inked areas with distress ink colours Peacock Feathers, Ripe Persimmon, and Dusty Concord.

 Some  mesh was stuck to the page randomly. I stamped through a stencil to get the wire mesh image. The film strip was cut from a Tim Holtz die, and inked with coordinating colours. String and flowers were used from my stash and the paper chip hinge, keyhole and '&' from my stash. These were coloured using distress inks, glimmer mist and distress paints to get the right look. The little letters were adhered straight on the page or onto card. A couple of stamps were used to add the final touches.

Ye Old Cigar Box

I picked up this old cigar box at the local flea market .

The box was painted and then I glued old music sheets to the top and pieces to the sides. The edges were distressed and a bit of paint smudged onto the edges. 

Brown card was embossed and then inked with distress ink. Pieces of the embossed card were cut for the top and sides and glued down on top of the music paper. Another piece of card with a music print was placed on the top of the embossed card once the ink had dried.

A chipboard set of wings was painted cream and then paper from "My Minds Eye" 6x6 pad called Bramble Rose set the tone for the rest of the colour scheme. The flowers were cut out of the same paper pad using a Tim Holtz dye and scrunched and screwed up until they looked three dimension. A pearl brad was pushed through the centre to hold them together and they were glued into place.Little acrylic pink flowers were placed around these larger paper flowers. A smaller heart from my chipboard stash was placed on top (this already had a bit of a pattern in glitter on it) and a wee copper heart with a ribbon threaded through it was placed on the top.

Using an old fishing swivel  I attached a fish and copper disk to it and glued this onto the box under the flowers. Another piece from my chipboard stash- the frame- was painted and a small piece of complimenting paper was used to cover it . The edges were distressed. I stamped the word IMAGINE using a little alphabet set I have . Brads were placed on each  side of the frame. A vellum print out with the butterfly and script background was tucked into the frame under the text.9 as an experiment and I liked it so left it there)

I used some beads I had purchased to make a necklace, as feet, which were perfect.

Altered Canvas

 I just love this sort of thing. It is so messy and so much fun. I think it brings out the child in me. ...here is another canvas I made for my daughter. I used old sewing notions like hooks and eyes, domes, buckles an old earring ( the huge thing onthe bottom right of the picture! yes that was a earring I wore in the 80's)flowers and anything else I could find including beads. All finished off with glimmer mist. I think that the inspiration comes from a course the ladies at Scotties did at the recent CHA in USA with Anna Dubrowski  http://tworzysko.blogspot.co.nz/ .Boy there are some very talented people out there.

Altered Canvas

I have just been to the NZ crafting show called SENZ, and I did a couple of classes. One of them was with Bev from Scottie crafts and altered canvas. There was much sticking, gluing spraying and general funwith gesso and texture paste. The other bits and pieces were all plonked onto the canvas and "hey presto" you're finished. You could put as much or as little as you wanted. Everyone had a choice of either green, pink or blue and they all turned out differently, but were all fabulous
